Private Health Insurance

Your private health insurance will cover most of your surgical costs, depending on your insurer and policy. We will provide you with a written quote stating the Medicare item numbers for your procedure and an estimate of surgical fees. Your quote will state the Medicare item numbers involved in your procedure. The ‘rebate’ refers to the amount of these costs covered by Medicare. Any out-of-pocket costs not covered by your insurer (otherwise known as gap) must be paid by the patient.

Endoscopy

Dr Moar and the anaesthetist provide endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) on a no-gap basis.

Elective surgery

Out-of-pocket fees range from “no gap” ($0), to “known gap” ($500), depending on the type and complexity of the surgery being performed. Dr Moar and the team will discuss this with you and provide a written quote for you to consider before any surgery is booked.

Bariatric (weight loss) surgery fees

Total costs of a bariatric surgery package, including hospital care, surgeon and assistant and anaesthetist, start from $14,900* for self-funded patients.

Dr Moar believes in collaborating with individuals to choose an operation that is the most appropriate operation for them. Therefore, for his role in the procedure, Dr Moar charges the same amount, regardless of the type of bariatric surgery – sleeve gastrectomy, one anastomosis bypass (OAGB) or a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB).

* There are some variations in what the total cost is, as fees from the anaesthetist and the hospital do vary according to the procedure undertaken. For revisional bariatric surgery, we are unable to provide cost estimates and prices will vary depending on complexity. Dr Moar and the team will be happy to provide a written quote to you after an in-person consultation.

Insured patients

If you have top cover in a private health insurance fund (please check you are covered for Item Numbers 31575 and 31572).

Health insurance and Medicare rebates apply. For an average fund, this means receiving approximately $900-$1200 back from your fund after the procedure. All insured and uninsured patients undergoing bariatric surgery receive two years of bulk-billed follow-up (provided one has a valid referral at the time of the follow-up appointment)

Self-funded patients
